East Champaran

East Champaran or Purvi Champaran is an administrative district in the Tirhut division of the state of Bihar in India. The district headquarter is located at Motihari. Prior to 1971, there was a single Champaran District.

On 1 December 1971, it was divided into East and West Champaran (Purvi and Paschimi Champaran). In early days the land of East Chamapran was ruled by different kingdoms as Videha, Sunga, Kanvas. It is also believed that Champaran used to be a major part of King Janak’s empire. Mahatma Gandhi started his famous Satyagraha movement from here.

It has twelve constituency namely Raxaul, Sugauli, Narkatiya, Harsidhi, Govindganj, Kesaria, Kalyanpur, Pipra, Madhuban, Motihari, Chiraia and Dhaka

Raxaul is one of the 243 constituencies of Bihar Legislative Assembly. It is located in the Purvi Champaran district of Bihar and comes under the Paschim Champaran Lok Sabha Constituency. As per the 2015 election, the constituency has 2,57,987 eligible voters.

 

Ajay Kumar Singh won the Raxaul constituency in the 2015 Bihar election. RJD’s Suresh Kumar stood at the 2nd position. There was a margin of 1.99% votes between the two. Ajay Kumar Singh has been winning the Raxaul constituency since 2000. He was elected for a fourth term in the year 2015.

The Purvi Champaran district of Bihar hosts the Sugauli constituency of Bihar. It is also a part of Paschim Champaran Lok Sabha Constituency. Sagauli approximately has 2,59,861 registered voters. It had recorded about 59 percent voter turnout in the Bihar election 2015.

 

Ramchandra Sahni of BJP was elected in Sugauli in the 2015 election. He scored 62,384 votes. Whereas RJD’s Om Prakash Choudhary was at the second spot by getting 7756 votes lesser than Ramchandra Sahni. Ramchandra Sahni has won this constituency for the third time in 2015 on BJP’s ticket.

Pipra, not to be confused with Pipra in the Purvi Champaran district, is located in the Supaul district of Bihar and is one of the 243 legislative assembly constituencies of the state. The constituency came into existence after the implementation of the orders of the Delimitation Commission of India in 2008. Pipra has around 2,98,953 eligible voters according to the data of the Bihar Assembly election 2015.

 

Shyambabu Prasad Yadav of BJP gained this seat after scoring 65,552 votes in the Bihar election 2015. He defeated JDU’s Krishan Chandra who got 3930 votes less than the winner and came up as a runner up. The voter margin was comparatively thin, which is only 2.30 %. The Bihar assembly election 2020 will be held in October or November 2020.

Motihari is one of the 243 legislative assembly segments of Bihar. The constituency of Motihari is located in the Purvi Champaran district of Bihar. The Piprakothi community development block and Motihari community development block are the areas that the Motihari assembly segment consists of as per the implementation of the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission of 2008.

 

Motihari has one of the strongest electoral rolls amongst all the assembly constituencies of the state with 2,63,092 eligible voters. There are 1,42,800 men and 1,20,286 women who are eligible to exercise their voting rights. BJP member Pramod Kumar is the sitting MLA of the Motihari constituency. Dhaka (not to be confused as the capital of Bangladesh) is one of the 243 assembly segments of Bihar. Dhaka is in Purvi Champaran district of the state. As ordered by the Delimitation Commission of India, community development blocks of Ghorasahan and Dhaka are the areas covered by the Dhaka assembly constituency. The Dhaka assembly segment belongs to the Sheohar parliamentary (Lok Sabha) constituency of Bihar.

 

A total of 2,61,279 eligible voters reside in the area covered by the constituency. There are 1,38,318 male and 1,23,650 female voters in the constituency. At present, the constituency of Dhaka is represented in the state assembly by Pawan Kumar Jaiswal (independent). There was a close fight between Jaiswal and his opponent Faisal Rahaman of JD (U) in the 2010 assembly elections of Bihar. Jaiswal won with 48,100 votes, while Rahman settled for 46,451 votes.
