Saharsa

Saharsa district is one of the thirty-eight districts of Bihar, India. Saharsa city is the administrative headquarters of this district. Saharsa district is a part of the Kosi Division and it became a district on 1 April 1954 and has subsequently become smaller with other districts being carved from it, most notably Madhepura in 1981.

 

Saharsa is located in the Mithila region, one of the earliest centers of Brahminical civilization in India.[1] Saharsa is considered as the heart of whole Mithila region. it is the place which gave birth to legends such as like Mandana Misra, Laxminath Gosain, Ubhai Bharti, etc.

 

It has four constituency namely Sonbarsha, Saharsa, Simri Bakhtiarpur, and Mahishi

Sonbarsha is an assembly constituency in Saharsa district in the Indian state of Bihar. It has been reserved for scheduled castes since 2010. Earlier, it was an open seat. As per Delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly constituencies Order, 2008, No. 74 Sonbarsha Assembly constituency (SC) is composed of the following: Sonbarsha, Patarghat and Banma Itahri community development blocks.

 

Sonbarsha Assembly constituency is part of No. 13 Madhepura (Lok Sabha constituency).

About Saharsa Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Saharsa is one of the 243 legislative assembly segments of the state of Bihar. It is in Saharsa district of the state. The Sau Bazaar Kahara community blocks, with Saharsa nagar parishad, is covered by the Saharsa assembly constituency as per the orders of the Delimitation Commission of India, 2008.

The Saharsa assembly constituency has a strong electorate of 3,18,057 eligible voters, among those are 1,66,892 men and 1,51,159 women. In the assembly elections held in November 2010, the Saharsa seat was captured by BJP’s Alok Ranjan with 55,687 votes. Ranjan defeated Arun Kumar of RJD by 7,979 votes. Arun Kumar managed to win 47,708 votes in the elections. The assembly segment of Saharsa is a part of the Madhepura Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituency of Bihar.

One of the 243 legislative assembly constituencies of Bihar is Simri Bakhtiarpur. It is located in the Saharsa district of the state. As the Delimitation Commission of India recommended in 2008, the Simri Bakhtiarpur assembly segment comprises Sirwar, Naharwar, Ghoghepur, Rajanpur, Jhara, Maheshi South, Maheshi North and Aeina gram panchayats of Mahishi community development block; Salkhua community development block; and Simri Bakhtiarpur community development block.

A part of the Khagaria Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituency of Bihar, Simri Bakhtiarpur is populated by 2,75,930 eligible voters. 1,44,449 of the total voters are men and 1,31,455 women. The sitting MLA of the constituency is Dr. Arun Kumar of JD (U). Dr. Kumar won 57,980 votes in the assembly election held in 2010. Choudhry Mehboob Ali Kaisar was the runner-up with 39,138 votes.

About Mahishi Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Located in the Saharsa district of Bihar, Mahishi is one of the 243 legislative assembly segments of the state. The Mahishi assembly constituency consists of Arapatti, Baghwa, Pastpar, Birgaun, Telhar, Manwar, Mahisarho, Telwa East, Telwa West, Kundah and Bhalahi gram panchayats of Mahishi community development block; Sattar Katiya community development block; and Nauhatta community development block as recommended by the Delimitation Commission of India in 2008.

A total of 2,48,377 eligible voters populate the assembly constituency of Mahishi, amongst them are 1,27,910 male and 1,20,465 female electors. RJD’s Dr. Abdul Gafoor represents Mahishi in the state legislative assembly of Bihar. Dr. Gafoor won the seat after he bagged 39,158 votes in the 2010 assembly elections. He defeated Raj Kumar Sah of JD (U), who managed to get 37,441 votes. Mahishi is a part of the Madhepura Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituency of Bihar.
