Katihar

Katihar district is one of the thirty-eight districts of Bihar state in India, and Katihar city is the administrative headquarters of this district. The district is a part of Purnia Division. It is prominently known for its Katihar Junction Railway Station, which is a Category A1 station on the Barauni–Guwahati line. It has been included in the Aspirational Districts Program of the Government of India since 2018, to improve its socio-economic indicators. Katihar is the largest maize producing district of Bihar in 2022.

There is a Lok Sabha (parliamentary) as well as a legislative assembly constituency in Bihar by the name Katihar. According to the orders of the Delimitation Commission of India, 2008, Katihar consists of Katihar community development block and Katihar nagar parishad.

The Katihar legislative assembly segment has a total of 2,23,943 eligible voters. Amongst the voters of the constituency are 1,20,014 men and 1,03,921 women. BJP’s Tar Kishore Prasad represents Katihar in the Bihar state legislative assembly. Prasad captured the seat by winning 58,718 votes in the 2010 assembly elections. He defeated Dr. Ram Prakash Mahto, who bagged 38,111 votes. The Katihar assembly segment is in Katihar district of Bihar.

A total of 2,23,753 people hold the right to vote in the Kadwa legislative assembly constituency. 1,18,637 men and 1,05,113 women are eligible voters in Kadwa. Bhola Ray of BJP is the sitting MLA of the constituency, who won the seat by winning 38,225 votes in the 2010 assembly elections. He defeated Himraj Singh of NCP, who managed 19,858 votes. It came into existence after the implementation of the Delimitation Commission of India in 2008. The same Commission recommended that the constituency consisted of Barsoi and Balrampur community development blocks.


There are 2,66,446 eligible voters in Balrampur assembly constituency. Amongst all the voters of the constituency are 1,41,033 men and 1,25,402 women who can vote. Presently, Dulal Chandra Goshwami, an independent candidate, represents the Balrampur segment in the Bihar legislative assembly. In the 2010 assembly elections, Goshwami won 48,136 votes and defeated Mahboob Alam of CPI (ML) (L) by a margin of 2704 votes. In Katihar district of Bihar, Manihari is one of the 243 legislative assembly constituencies of the state. The constituency is reserved for the candidates from the Scheduled Tribes (ST). Manihari consists of Amdabad, Mansahi and Manihari community development blocks as per the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission of India, 2008.


The Manihari assembly constituency is home to a total of 2,27,078 people who are eligible to vote. Amongst the voters of the constituency are 1,21,049 men and 1,06,022 women. Manohar Prasad Singh of JD (U) is the sitting MLA of the constituency, who defeated NCP candidate Gita Kisku by a margin of 4,165 votes in the assembly elections held in 2010. Kochadhaman is in Kishanganj district of Bihar and is one of the 243 legislative assembly constituencies of the state. The Kochadhaman assembly constituency came into existence in 2008 and consists of Pichhla, Belwa, Daula, Gachhpara, Mehangaon and Chakla gram panchayats of Kishanganj community development block and Kochadhaman CD block, as per the orders of the Delimitation Commission of India, 2008.


The Kochadhaman assembly constituency accommodates 2,05,971 eligible voters. There are 1,08,914 male and 97,055 female voters in the constituency.
