Madhepura district is one of the thirty-eight districts of Bihar state, India, and Madhepura town is the administrative headquarters of this district. Madhepura district is a part of Kosi division.
Madhepura district is part of the Kosi—Seemanchal subregion of Mithila region of Bihar and the people here speak the Maithili language.

Madhepura was a part of Maurya Empire, this fact is asserted by the Mauryan pillar at Uda-kishunganj.

During British Raj, the district of Madhepura was dominated by the Yadav Zamindars of Murho Estate, who were the biggest landlords of the district.

 

It has four constituency namely Alamnagar, Bihariganj, Singheshwar and Madhepura.

Alamnagar is in Madhepura district of Bihar and is one of the 243 legislative assembly segments of the state. Alamnagar assembly constituency consists of Chausa, Puraini and Alamnagar community development blocks and Gopalpur, Rahta Phanhan, Budhma, Nayanagar, Khara, Sahjadpur, Jotaili, Lashkari and Manjora of Udakishunganj CD block.

The Alamnagar assembly constituency has a strong electorate of 2,90,185 electors. 1,51,517 men and 1,38,663 women of the constituency enjoy the right to vote. Alamnagar is represented in the state assembly by Narendra N. Yadav of JD (U), who won the seat by bagging 64,967 votes in the 2010 assembly elections. He defeated INC’s Lovely Anand by 42,345 votes. The assembly segment of Alamnagar belongs to the Madhepura Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituency of Bihar.

A part of the Madhepura Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituency, Bihariganj is one of the 243 legislative assembly segments of the state of Bihar. As recommended by the Delimitation Commission of India 2008, Bihariganj assembly segment comprises Gwalpara and Bihariganj community development blocks, Biriranpal, Pipra Karoti, Madhuban, Barahi Anadpura, Rampur Khora, Lakshmipur and Kishunganj gram panchayats of Uda Kishanganj CD block; Murliganj notified area, Haripur Kala, Jorgama, Digghi, Pokhram Parmanadpur, Singiyon, Dinapatti Sakhuwa, Raghunathpur, Gangapur, Kolhaypatti Dumriya and Rajni gram panchayats of Murliganj CD block. The recommendations of the Delimitation Commission brought Bihariganj assembly constituency into existence in 2008.

The Bihariganj constituency is populated by 2,70,837 eligible voters, amongst them are 1,40,414 males and 1,30,416 females. Renu Kumari of JD (U) represents Bihariganj in the legislative assembly of Bihar. She got hold of the seat with 79,062 votes in the assembly elections held in 2010. She defeated RJD’s Prabhash Kumar with a huge margin of 49,997 votes. Bihariganj is in Madhepura district of Bihar.

About Singheshwar Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Singheshwar, in Madhepura district of Bihar, is one of the 243 legislative assembly constituencies of the state. The Delimitation Commission of India in 2008 recommended that Singheshwar be reserved for the candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes (SC) henceforth. According to the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission, Singheshwar consists of Kumarkhand, Shankarpur and Singheshwar community development blocks.

The Singheshwar assembly segment accommodates a total of 2,70,494 people who are eligible to vote. There are 1,40,854 male and 1,29,631 female voters in the constituency. At present, the sitting MLA of the constituency is Ramesh Rishidev of JD (U), who captured the seat having won 72,282 votes in the 2010 assembly elections. RJD’s Amit Kumar Bharti ended up as the runner-up with 57,086 votes. The Singheshwar assembly segment is a part of the Supaul Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituency of Bihar.

The state of Bihar has a parliamentary (Lok Sabha) as well as a legislative assembly constituency by the name Madhepura. As per the implementation of the orders of the Delimitation Commission of India, 2008, Madhepura covers Gailadh, Ghamharia and Madhepura community development blocks; Parwa Navtol, Belo, Tamot Parsa, Nadhi, Bhatkhora and Jitapur gram panchayats of Murliganj CD block.

The Madhepura legislative assembly segment has a big electorate of 2,86,971 eligible voters. There are 1,50,015 men and 1,36,947 women holding the right to vote in the constituency. Madhepura is represented by RJD’s Chandrashekhar in the state legislative assembly. Chandrashekhar became the MLA from Madhepura when he bagged 72,481 votes and won the seat in the assembly elections held in November 2010. He defeated Dr. Ramendra Kumar Yadav Ravi of JD (U) who won 60,537 votes. Madhepura assembly segment is in Madhepura district of Bihar.
