Purnia

Purnia District is one of the thirty-eight districts of the Indian state of Bihar. The city of Purnia is the administrative headquarters of this district. The Purnia city has continued its tradition of hoisting the national flag at 12:07 am on every Independence Day since 1947. Purnia district is a part of Purnia Division. The district extends northwards from the Ganges river.

 

Purnia district occupies 3,229 square kilometres (1,247 sq mi), comparable to the Solomon Islands’ Makira Island. It is a depressed tract, consisting for the most part of a rich, loamy alluvial soil. It is traversed by several rivers flowing from the Himalayas, which afford great advantages of irrigation and water-carriage. Its major rivers are the Kosi, the Mahananda, the Suwara Kali, the Kari kosi, the Saura and the Koli. In the west, the soil is thickly covered with sand deposited by changes in the course of the Kosi. Among other rivers are the Mahananda and the Panar. Its major agricultural products are jute, maize and banana.

Amour, in Purnia district of Bihar, is one of the 243 legislative assembly segments of Bihar. As per the implementation of the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission of India, 2008, Amour assembly constituency comprises Baisa and Amour community development blocks. The Amour assembly constituency is a part of Kishanganj Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituency of Bihar. Amour assembly segment is populated by 2,63,619 eligible voters. Among those who can vote in the constituency are 1,40,462 men and 1,23,153 women.

Amour is represented in the state assembly of Bihar by Saba Zafar of BJP. Saba Zafar took hold of the assembly seat of Amour after she emerged victorious in the 2010 assembly elections with 57,774 votes. Abdul Jalil Mastan of INC ended up as the runner up by winning 38,946 votes.

The Kasba assembly segment is a part of the Purnia Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituency of Bihar. It has a total of 2,36,588 eligible voters, amongst them are 1,23,163 are men while 1,13,416 are female. The assembly seat of Kasba is presently occupied by INC’s Md. Afaque Alam, who won the seat in 2010 assembly elections by accounting for 63,025 votes. He beat Pradip Kumar Das of BJP by a margin of 4,455 votes. Das won 58,570 votes.

Banmankhi is one of the 243 legislative assembly segments of the state of Bihar. It is in Purnia district of the state. After the implementation of the Delimitation Commission of India, Matihani, Aurahi, Sukhsena West, Sukhsena East, Barhara Kothi, Rustampur, Dibara Dhani, Nipania, Mulkiya, Gouripur and Latraha gram panchayats of Barhara Kothi community development block and Banmankhi CD block came under the jurisdiction of the Banmankhi assembly constituency in 2008.

A total of 2,54,544 people are eligible to vote in the Banmankhi assembly segment. The electorate of Banmankhi includes 1,33,531 men and 1,21,009 women. BJP’s Krishna Kumar Rishi of BJP represents Banmankhi in the legislative assembly of Bihar. He won the seat by bagging 67,950 votes in the assembly elections of 2010. Rishi defeated Dharmlal Rishi of RJD with a prodigious margin of 44,890 votes. The Rupauli assembly constituency consists of Basudeopur, Aurlaha, Thari, Bhatsara, Arbanna Chakla, Laxmipur, Patraha and Nathpur of Barhara Kothi community development block, Bhawanipur and Rupauli CD blocks, as per the rulings of the Delimitation Commission of India, 2008.


The Rupauli assembly segment is home to 2,67,270 eligible voters, amongst them are 1,27,925 female and 1,39,339 are male.
