Sitamarhi is one of the districts in the Indian state of Bihar. Dumra is the administrative headquarters of this district. The district is a part of the Tirhut division It is believed to be the place of manifestation of Goddess Sita in the ancient Mithila Kingdom while the legendary King Janaka in the epic Ramayana was ploughing a farm field in the present city of Sitamarhi.

 

Presently in the city of Sitamarhi, there are two locations claimed to be the birthplace of the Goddess Sita. The two locations are Urvija Kund at Janaki Sthan and Janaki Kund at Punauradham.

 

It has eight constituency namely Riga, Bathnaha, Parihar, Sursand, Bajpatti, Sitamarhi, Runnisaidpur and Belsand.

About Riga Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Riga is one of the 243 legislative assembly constituencies of Bihar. Riga assembly segment is in Sitamarhi district of the state. The constituency came into existence in 2008 after the implementation of the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission of India. As per the orders of the commission, Riga covers Suppi, Bairgania and Riga community development blocks. The Riga assembly segment is a part of Sheohar Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituency of Bihar.


Riga is home to one of the largest electorates in the state with a total of 2,67,543 eligible voters. 1,42,246 men and 1,25,281 women of the constituency have the right to vote and contribute in electing their representatives. BJP’s Motilal Prasad is the sitting MLA of the constituency. In the first ever elections held in the constituency in 2010, Motilal Prasad defeated Amit Kumar of INC with a big margin of 22,327 votes. Prasad won 48,633 votes as compared to 26,306 votes of Amit Kumar.

Bathnaha is a legislative assembly constituency reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes and is one of the 243 assembly segments of Bihar. Bathnaha was open to all candidates before 2008. It lies in the Sitamarhi district of the state. According to the implementation of the orders of the Delimitation Commission of India in 2008, the Bathnaha assembly segments comprise Majorganj and Bathnaha community developments blocks; Bishanpur Gonahi, Bagha, Hanuman Nagar, Khap Khopraha, Ghurghura, Marpa, Madhesra, Kanhauli, Bhutahi and Kachor gram panchayats of Sonbarsha community development blocks.

There are 2,64,299 eligible voters in the Bathnaha constituency, out of which 1,38,385 are male and 1,25,901 are female voters. The sitting MLA of the constituency is BJP’s Dinkar Ram who came out victorious from the constituency in the assembly elections held in 2010. Dinkar Ram won 49,181 votes against the runner-up Lalita Devi of LJP who got 35,889 votes. Bathnaha lies in Sitamarhi parliamentary (Lok Sabha) constituency.

A part of Sitamarhi parliamentary (Lok Sabha) constituency, Parihar is one the 243 legislative assembly segments of Bihar. The assembly constituency of Parihar came into being in 2008 as per the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission of India. As the Delimitation Commission suggested, the assembly segment of Parihar covers Dostia, Sonbarsa, Bishunpur Adhar, Purandha Rajwara Purvi, Purandha Rajwara Paschimi, Indarwa, Bhaluaha, Singhwahini, Pipra Parsain, Madhiya and Jainagar gram panchayats of Sonbarsa community development blocks and Parihar CD blocks.

The Parihar assembly constituency is home to 2,68,167 persons who have the right to vote. The state has 1,40,316 male and 1,27,837 female eligible voters. The assembly seat of Parihar presently belongs to Ram Naresh Pr. Yadav of BJP. Yadav defeated RJD’s Dr. Ramchandra Purve in the assembly elections held in November 2010. Yadav had got 32,987 votes, while Purve managed 28,769 votes.

Sitamarhi Vidhan Sabha/ Assembly constituency is located in the Sitamarhi district and Lok Sabha constituency. It has about 2,59,355 eligible voters as of 2015 Bihar election data. Of them, 1,38,927 are males; 1,20,418 are females; and 10 from the third gender community. This constituency recorded 63 % voter turnout in the previous Bihar assembly election.

 

The voters elected Sunil Kumar of RJD as their MLA by giving him 81,557 votes. BJP’s Sunil Kumar alias Pintu got 66,835 votes and became a runner up. The voter margin between the two was 9.05 %. BJP’s Sunil Kumar alias Pintu who came as a runner up had earlier won 4 elections from Sitamarhi. That is. The 2003 by-poll, 2005 (February and October, and the 2010 Bihar election. Located in the Sitamarhi district of Bihar is Belsand Vidhan Sabha constituency. It has an electorate of about 2,35,494 voters. It belongs to the Sheohar parliamentary constituency. The 2015 election of Bihar assembly recorded 52.04 percent polling on Besland Vidhan Sabha constituency.

 

JDU’s Sunita Singh Chauhan registered her second victory at this constituency in 2015. She had also won the 2010 election. Chauhan secured 33,785 votes and defeated LJP’s Md. Nasir Ahamad by a margin of 5,575 votes. Hence, Md. Nasir Ahamad stood second and became a runner up. The next election is expected as per the Bihar election 2020 (October or November).
