Supaul

Supaul district is one of the thirty-eight districts of Bihar, India. The town Supaul is the district’s administrative headquarters. The district, which was split from the former Saharsa district on 14 March 1991, occupies 2,410 km2 (931 sq mi).

 

Supaul, which was previously a part of Saharsa district, is now part of the Mithila region.Mithila first gained prominence after being settled by Indo-Aryan people, who established the Mithila Kingdom (also called Kingdom of the Videhas).

 

During the late Vedic period (c. 1100–500 BCE), Videha, along with Kuru and Pañcāla, became one of the major political and cultural centres of South Asia. The kings of the Videha Kingdom were called Janakas. The Videha Kingdom was later incorporated into the Vajjika League, which had its capital in the city Vaishali, which is also in Mithila.

About Nirmali Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

A part of the Supaul Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituency of Bihar, Nirmali is one of the 243 legislative assembly constituencies of the state. It is situated in the Supaul district of Bihar. It has about 2,69,512 eligible voters according to the Bihar election 2020. Of them, 1,39,771 are men; and 1,29,740 women. This constituency has given 52.16 polling percent in the Bihar assembly election 2015.

JDU’s Anirudh Prasad Yadav won this constituency by scoring 79,600 votes and defeated Ram Kumar Roy of BJP who settled with 55,649 votes. Hence, the winner and the runner up had a margin of 23,951 votes. JDU had won this seat in the 2010 Bihar election as well. The next election will take place in October or November 2020.

About Pipra Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Pipra, not to be confused with Pipra in the Purvi Champaran district, is located in the Supaul district of Bihar and is one of the 243 legislative assembly constituencies of the state. The constituency came into existence after the implementation of the orders of the Delimitation Commission of India in 2008. Pipra has around 2,98,953 eligible voters according to the data of the Bihar Assembly election 2015.

 

Shyambabu Prasad Yadav of BJP gained this seat after scoring 65,552 votes in the Bihar election 2015. He defeated JDU’s Krishan Chandra who got 3930 votes less than the winner and came up as a runner up. The voter margin was comparatively thin, which is only 2.30 %. The Bihar assembly election 2020 will be held in October or November 2020.

About Supaul Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Apart from a Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituency of Bihar, there is also a legislative assembly constituency by the name Supaul in the state. It is situated in the district of the same name. The voters of Supaul elected Bijendra Prasad Yadav of JDU as their MLA in the 2010 election of the Bihar Assembly. He secured 82,295 votes. BJP’s Kishor Kumar gained the second spot with 44,898 votes. They had a wide margin of 37,397 votes between them.

It is to be noted that Bijendra Prasad Yadav has been winning the Supaul constituency consistently since the year 2000. He has won in the year 2000, 2005 (February and October), 2010, and 2015 Bihar Assembly election. Therefore, he had started his fifth term as the MLA of Supaul constituency in the year 2015. Supaul has 2,63,776 eligible voters. Of them, 57.15 % exercised their right to vote in the previous election. The next Bihar Assembly election 2020 is due in October or November.

About Chhatapur Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

The 2,63,253 eligible voters of Chhatapur elected BJP’s Niraj Kumar Singh as their MLA for the period 2015 to 2020. He won this seat by getting 75,697 votes in the Bihar Assembly election 2015. Jahur Alam of RJD emerged as runner up as he settled with 66,405 votes. There was a difference of 9292 votes between the two.

 

Chhatapur is located in the Supaul district of Bihar and is a part of Supaul Lok Sabha Constituency. Chhatapur has an electorate of 2,63,253.
